Mother and Son Portrait Commission

bethany

Michael put the word out last month that he was available for portrait commissions, and one came in almost immediately from a friend, to commemorate the birth of a mutual friend's first child.  The photo that inspired the project was the work of Trina Dinnar Photography, one of a lovely series of newborn family portraits of M&R and their delicious baby B.

Michael set up a wee studio in the basement at Keren and Bobby's, sharing space with Bobby's workshop.  He scavenged a tiny little battery-operated radio, parked it on an upturned coffee can, hung a fresh canvas on the pegboard wall, and went to town.  Mostly working at night (hence the dark-ish photos from Michael's phone), the piece slowly came to life ...

The finished piece was wrapped, boxed, and shipped off to Maine as a surprise for the doting parents!

The finished piece is 18" x 24" acrylic on canvas

Not to be forgotten ... Fynn, whose resistance to Paint! and Dad! and Projects! is non-existent, managed to worm his way into Michael's studio corner several times ... painting his own piece right next to DAD, moving his clay operation to the table right behind him and creating several other things, and being a very moth-like flutterer for the duration.  He's a Maker for sure, and more like his father every day.
